This video was created as part of my work as a student services assistant at the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy to recruit new students to the school and explain what philanthropy is all about. This video portrays my love for education and that everyone should know about higher education opportunities.
Creating videos is one of my secret talents that everyone does not know about that has led me to great things over my time as an undergraduate. This video shows I am able to start forming relationships in early communication, which is important as a future fundraiser. This video was to broadcasted at an event with hundreds in attendance from all around the country as well as posted on social media for people to see around the world. It had to be effective for a diverse array of audiences to serve its marketing purpose.
What is Philanthropic Studies?
Philanthropic Studies is a major that has allowed me to make my passion my profession. My degree from the IU Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, the only philanthropy school in the world, is one of the greatest "secrets" at IUPUI. As Roald Dohl said some of the greatest kept secrets are in the most unlikely places, just as the school that is enabling me to be the change is tucked into the third floor of a building in the center of Indianapolis, IN. Through my education I was able to increase my understanding of philanthropy and has enabled me to change its practice worldwide through critical inquiry, interdisciplinary research, teaching, training, and civic engagement.
Why Philanthropic Studies?
Below is my personal mission statement written in the Philanthropy Capstone Course that explains why I choose to study philanthropy.
What is Philanthropy?
To me philanthropy means the love of human kind. Philanthropy is philanthropic action for the public good. Philanthropy is your time, talents and treasures.
Take a look below at presentations I have developed through my role as a student services assistant that portrays my knowledge of philanthropy and what I have learned in my coursework. Being able to give these presentations to others has deepened my passion for education and my passion that everyone should have access to learn what they desire.
This series of LFSOP Presentations- PhilanthroWhat, Making Your Passion your Profession, Like, Share, Post- What you need to know about online fundraising is one of the many things I am proud of that I have produced during my time as a student services assistant. This artifact is a series of presentations developed by myself and fellow colleagues to be presented to high school students across the country to tell about the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, the content students learn as PHST students and to teach them about philanthropy best practices. During the creation of these presentations I was able to evaluate a lot of information, break it down to what is important to include in a presentation, and then communicate the information effectively while building relationships with students. Being concise and clear is an important skill to have as a future fundraiser.
